Man oh man, do we love Mike Ball. Not only is he a phenomenal athlete, but he has to be one of the most genuine, nicest guys we’ve ever met. Mike came to us over a year ago with no sports background looking to improve his overall health and wellness. In such a short time, Mike has consistently improved at the box.. setting new PR’s, trying to conquer new movements (he will openly admit he has a love/hate relationship with double unders) and making the most out of each training session.
Mike’s passion for CrossFit has even extended beyond the box, leading him to achieve his CrossFit Level 1 Trainer Certification this past summer. We are so excited to have introduced Mike to CrossFit, share our passion for the sport with him and to witness his growth first hand.
Here’s what Mike has to say about how his time at Back East has helped him become a better person!
“How has CrossFit helped me?
Since starting CrossFit in July of 2016 CrossFit has helped me become physically stronger and more athletic than I have ever been… Ok, although true, I realize that is a pretty obvious answer. So what I am going to talk about now are the things I did not expect CrossFit to help me with when I walked into Back East.
CrossFit has helped me become a much stronger person mentally, both in and out of the gym. Prior to CrossFit and even when I first started, I gave up easily one things in life and doubted myself far too often. When life or work has gotten tough I now push through it with a much more positive attitude then I would have prior to CrossFit. CrossFit has also helped me try new things, and push me out of my comfort zone. For example, rock climbing, or competing in an Olympic Weightlifting meet. Although it didn’t go as I had hoped, this was huge for me. This pushed me well out of my comfort zone and I learned so much from this experience.
Most important though CrossFit…Back East CrossFit, has helped me learn what it’s like to be a part of a community. The community support and atmosphere is something I didn’t have before and it has helped me get through so much this past year. It’s awesome how supportive and kind everyone is.
I like to think that this is just the beginning, and that CrossFit will continue to help me push myself further into the land of PR’s and help me continue to grow as a person.” – Mike Ball
